This will be the last in the Synergy series. If you haven’t read the first two, links are here:
Synergy Setup: Part 1
Synergy Setup: Part 2
Okay. We’ve come up with a naming scheme, installed synergy, set up our screens, and created our links. So far we’ve only really done any configuration on the server. Now we need to configure the client. In my case, that will be my desktop, because my laptop (Eagle2) has the peripherals I want to share.
Every client will need to be configured if it is to be part of the system. The configuration is dead simple.
Remember, this is the client side. Eagle2 is the server and has been configured with screens and links.
That’s it.
Now, on the server end, press Test. You will get a console which will report changes as they happen.
Go to your client, and press Test. It should let you know that it did indeed connect to the server. On the server end, you will see that the client connected. Move your mouse to the edge that you set up with your links.
If you set everything up correctly, your mouse will move to the other screen. Move it back. If it moved back, you’re done. The console messages should indicate everything that has happened.
You can close the consoles and press Stop. In future, to use Synergy, simply press “Start” on the server, followed by “Start” on the client.
The synergy icon will turn from a green circle into a green circle with a lightning bolt through it, when the computers are connected.
Note, synergy also shares your clipboard. So I can copy something on my laptop and paste it on my desktop.
Enjoy!
