You can still buy Windows XP!
Amazon is still offering Windows XP Home, Pro, and Upgrade.
The Upgrade edition upgrades your legacy (98/ME, possibly 95?) to XP Home + SP2. There’s no upgrade edition to make the jump up to Pro, you have to buy it outright.

Finding drivers for unknown devices

My work laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1420.
Dell saw fit to send it with a disk of drivers. How nice. Dell didn’t, to my great displeasure, include any XP drivers. Hmm, I’m certain this is the most widely-used OS on the planet. Oops.

Speeding up your PC
Posted by Harv in Quick Tips, Utilities, Windows on December 30, 2009
Quite often, a client will ask me to speed up their PC.
More times than not, they will be running Windows XP, with Office, some pictures, music, email. Here are the tools and process I use when I get these requests. Keep in mind that usually they don’t want this to be a big deal- an hour or two. So this is a very general “bang-for-buck” way of doing a general cleanup. Onward!
